The Mygdal Plantlamp allows you to grow plants anywhere – no sunlight required. Whether you’re stuck in an office cubicle, basement, or rainy city, these lamps mean you’ll still be able to benefit from light and greenery, turning the dreariest space into a bright, natural space.
German design team We Love Eames, which is composed of Emilia Lucht and Arne Sebrantke, were inspired to envision a lamp that would enable people to grow plants anywhere indoors. They realized that as people move to cities, they often miss the greenery of rural environments, and wanted to bring more plants to urban areas.

The creative lights use LED lighting in place of sunshine. Even crazier, the plants inside the lamp don’t require water to grow for years, according to the designers. They took the design one step further: they created an entirely “self-sustaining ecosystem.” The lamps imitate the process of photosynthesis, so owners never need to water the plants or even handle them at all.

We Love Eames designed two styles: one that can hang from the ceiling and another that can sit on a desk or table. The glass of the standing lamp includes an additional innovation: it has a coating that conducts electricity, so the lamp doesn’t even need a cable to function. Instead, electricity is streamed along the surface, providing power. A patent is pending for the glass coating.

Inspired by Charles and Ray Eames, 20th century architects, artists, and furniture designers, the We Love Eames team emphasizes subtlety, ergonomics and details. Among several other furniture designs, they’ve created a felt-backed chair made with natural materials that collapses into a stool.
