Your mind may have wandered in to clog territory, but these shoes have a lot more flexibility.

Oddity Central shared the news that nat-2, a German shoe company, has released the world’s first vegan wooden sneakers. Comprised of 90% sustainable ash, birch, maple, tulip tree, walnut, cherry, elm, and beech wood varieties, the company has mastered a new product line that’s challenging the current eco-footwear status quo. Cork insoles, animal-free glues, and rubber are also crafted in to each pair currently produced in the vegan shoe capital of the world; Italy.

In a press release, nat-2 explains how it’s made; “the wood is applied to an organic cotton and vector engraved in a way that the material bends and becomes soft and flexible like a fine nappa leather. The feel is very smooth and fine, while you can smell the wood and see the tree’s natural texture.”

The wood used is also FSC certified, which guarantees it’s traceability and origin. There are currently four different high and low top pairs in men and women’s sizes to choose from, albeit none of them as flashy as the companies LED sneakers line. Still, we are constantly amazed by the animal alternatives taking over the footwear world, one sneaker at a time!
