A San Antonio water recycling facility is the first plant of its kind to turn methane gas from human solid waste into clean burning natural gas for profit. What gas was once being burned off using a standard flare is now turned into useful energy and being sold on the open market. They do this with customized air pollution control equipment from Catalytic Products International. The QUADRANT-NRV Series Thermal Oxidation System is designed for use with the low-volume/high-BTU waste gas streams. As we utilize our propriety Venturi Burner Package to process the waste gas directly through the burner, we are able to reduce the size, and thus cost, of the oxidation system. In addition, the high-velocity burner array and turbulating baffles downstream of the burner provide a Destruction Rate Efficiency in excess of 99.9%. When compared to flaring technologies, the QUADRANT-NRV System offers benefits such as reduced operating costs and high removal efficiencies. These systems are customized to the needs of the application and typically include factory assembly, PLC-based controls, complete instrumentation, and exhaust stack. Catalytic Products International provides various engineering, installation, and maintenance services to meet every need.
A percentage of the proceeds go back to the city and essentially back into the plant’s budget reducing the operating costs. With the scrubbed water, and the rest of the solid material being sold to local nurseries for composting, according to MSNBC, San Antonio is the first US city to successfully capitalize on the bio waste recycling trifecta.
