The Fashion Center is outfitting New York City with “Tour de Fashion,” a fleet of thirty bicycles customized by the city’s top designers just in time for Fashion Week, September 8 – 15, Thread NY reports; special thanks to participating designer Gretchen Jones for posting this on Facebook.
While access to New York Fashion Week requires a key the bikes, made in New York by Bowery Lane Bicycles, will be available for passerby’s and fashionistas alike to borrow for free — with a security deposit — to take a spin around town or to a show.
Fashion photographers will have a feast for their eyes thanks to “Tour de Fashion.” Are street-style photos of ladies hailing cabs so last season? Could be so.
“We always felt that cycling was an extension of fashion,” Bowery Lane Bicycles CEO Michael Salvatore tells Thread NY “To have all these great designers participate just reaffirms our belief and why we started manufacturing bicycles here in NYC.”
If you’ve yet to don designer duds by Diane von Furstenberg, Betsey Johnson, Isaac Mizrahi, Nicole Miller, Elie Tahari, Nanette Lepore, Rebecca Minkoff, Carlos Falchi, or Prabal Gurung, take their wheels for a complimentary spin. Come fashion week, find them at a staffed docking station, located on the Broadway plazas in New York City. Let the bike style wars begin!
