Located in a basement gallery on one of the super-posh terraced streets behind Harrod’s, the ‘Enlightened Waste’ exhibition at the London Design Festival showcased a series of enchanted objects that transform common waste packaging materials into beautiful furnishings. Using 1,500 recycled pet bottles, designer Thierry Jeannot created a stunning chandelier that is one of the brightest pieces we’ve seen so far at the London Design Festival.

The hanging luminaire is made from recycled PET bottles found in Mexico City, were French-born Jeannot currently lives. Jeannot told Inhabitat that he visited many of the Mexican capital’s recycling centers in search of raw material. Because he sadly found appalling working conditions in the centers, he decided to look for the bottles locally by working together with neighbors and independent street recyclers, paying them more than what they would normally get for the raw material.
