A Global Campaign for Hasankeyf and Amazon Jungles.

With the disappointment of Rio +20, a new global campaign was established in association with NGO’s and communities who are affected by dams.

Anti-dam groups and Ngo’s will struggle together against big barrages that cause widespread devastation in human and environmental life under the name of ‘Damocracy’ for Hasankeyf and Amazon jungles. Nature Corporation, Amazon Watch, Rivers International, Brazilian communities, volunteers, and activists from all over the world are taking part in this global campaign.

‘Damocracy’ aims to bring the public to action in stopping the big dams and also raise awareness of their human, environmental, and cultural effects. Belo Monte that threatens the Amazon, the lungs of the world, and Ilısu Dam, which will destroy The cradle of civilization Dicle Valley and Hasankeyf, are two focus points of that campaign.

The minister of Nature Corporation, Guven Eken, mentioned that governments and companies presented the dams as “green economy’’ under the name of “renewable energy” in Rio+20 and added that they decided to struggle against the policies of companies and governments which endanger environments and human life. This movement’s name will be “Damocracy”. A lot of civil initiatives will struggle for Dicle Valley and Amazon Jungles.
