Google nearly went where no search engine conglomerate has gone before: the veggie burger business.
According to reports, the web company tried to buy Impossible Foods, a startup developing a plant-based cheeseburger, for between $200 million to $300 million.
However, Google’s massive offer was rejected because the company wanted more cash. We can only guess that Impossible Foods — whose mission is “to give people the great taste and nutritional benefits of foods that come from animals without the negative health and environmental impact” — know they have something really, really good to reject such a huge offer.
It certainly looks really good (see image above). The burger, which is set to launch later this year, is said to taste so similar to the “real” meat deal that it even bleeds, just like a meat patty cooked medium-rare. Whoah.
Though it’s not known why Google would want in the veggie burger game, we can only guess that they think the vegan business is profitable. Heck, even White Castle serves up plant-based patties now. And with Amy’s Kitchen launching an all-veggie drive-thru this month, we’re pretty sure that it soon won’t be long until Google gets into the vegan game.
