The disparity between price points among denim brands can be pretty drastic. You can find $25 jeans at Uniqlo, and $250 from designer brands. Does it ever make sense to shell out that much money for jeans when you can find them so much cheaper?

To get an answer, WhoWhatWear interviewed Chloe Lonsdale, founder and chief creative officer of M.i.h. Since the brand is in the business of creating premium denim, it might make sense that she advocates for higher-priced denim. But her reasoning is also pretty solid. Here are the key points arguing why you should drop some serious cash on jeans:

1. Quality of materials is higher and maintains its shape better
2. It takes longer for an experienced seamstress to make each pair
3. Distressing is done by hand and therefore looks more authentic

Says Lonsdale:

For a truly sophisticated wash, we select everything from the size of the stones used for stone washing (and whether the stones are new or old—old stones have the sharp edges smoothed over so give a different effect to new stones) to the grade of sandpaper and dilution of the fading agents.
