Over the weekend I took a short trip down to Washington D.C. with Meghan, my darling friend and the fashionable voice behind Wit & Whimsy. We stayed in Georgetown, but took time to cruise a few museums, crane our necks to see the Washington Monument and indulge at some local restaurants.

I hadn’t been to The District since I was about 12, long before I really knew what was what in the world of fashion, beyond my Gap Kids baby tee. The style is very different from New York of course, but really only just a week bit less jazzy than my own taste. I found that it’s a more conservative way of dress, a mix of preppy style from the north and south, with the hint of worldly style knowledge that comes from living in a large, metropolitan city.

And so, I took to the streets and boutiques in my denim. I brought two classic, easy pairs: My DL 1961 Angel skinny ankle pants (last seen here) and my 7 For All Mankind Gwenevere skinny jeans. I mixed them with classic cable knit sweaters and my tweed boyfriend coat for a look that fit the vibe of the city and was still very much me.

Do you play denim dress up when you travel to another city?
