The first weekend of Coachella is already a memory (perhaps a hazy one, for those who were there), and the street style photos are now flooding our favorite magazine sites like ELLE.com and Harper’s Bazaar online. Cut-off denim shorts are almost as required as your ticket at this music festival, and there was no shortage of fun, bohemian and rock-and-roll looks this season.

The photographers for ELLE and Bazaar (Ann Ziegler and street style pro Mr. Newton, respectively) have a keen eye for models, musicians and celebrities, so the style is perhaps a little skewed towards the dramatic, but none-the-less we can all be inspired by their chic pairings.

4 Denim Tips We Can Take Away:

  • An oversize denim jacket (easily thrifted from Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc) balances out a sexy little dress
  • A one-piece swimsuit becomes desert dancing-appropriate with cut-off shorts and a cross-body bag
  • Ripped and shredded denim looks more grown up with a structured utility jacket and flat ankle boots
  • Sometimes and irreverent mix of denim, ombre, plaid and midriff looks so 90s in a good way
