As I looked through images of Fashion Week street style (and took it in first-hand) over the last couple of weeks, I definitely had my critical denim-hunting goggles on. I was looking for consistency, repeated styles and fresh ideas.

I saw so many different looks and interpretations of how to wear denim – so many so that there really wasn’t a discernible theme for me. Fashion Week brings out the best in people’s personal style, and everyone seemed to have their own idea of how to wear denim this fall. In short – you can do no wrong.

There was tons of distressed denim, lots of skinny jeans, and a few pairs of overalls. I wouldn’t consider skinny jeans or distressing an emergent trend, but this overalls thing really does seem to be happening. I like to think that the popularity of more instant fashion reporting thanks to the Internet, and the popularity of blogs has done a lot to disperse the density of trends on the streets.

With so many different sources of inspiration at our fingertips, we’re all getting inspired from different aesthetics and style icons instantaneously. The personalities, bloggers, editors and celebs getting snapped day after day during Fashion Week also tend to change their style dramatically – wearing stovepipe jeans and a blouse one day and a full skirt and crop top the next.

The ultimate trend in my eyes is making denim your own. Taking the pieces we all have available and giving them your own cool, unique, twist. Whether it’s a crazy bodysuit and ripped light-wash jeans or a sleeveless denim shirt and peplum skirt – it seems there’s no wrong way to work your denim these days.
