When I was younger (much, much younger) I used to hand-sew little handbags for myself out of my dad’s old Levi’s, with ribbon accents and ric-rac straps. They were my first DIY projects, and looking back – rather cleverly done.

These days I’m not so fond of ric-rac and ribbons (or hand-sewing, for that matter), but still on the hunt for denim accessories that fit with my more grown-up wardrobe. It can be tough to make them look more cool than twee or kitchy. For example, I’d struggle to make these Maison Martin Margiela sneakers look good. For a gal like me, a simple backpack is a great place to start, and much easier to style.

This girl’s backpack is a nice compliment to her comfortable all-black ensemble (harem pants, anyone?) and white sneakers, and is probably full of cameras and fashion show press passes and other awesome stuff I can’t even think of right now.

Do you like the denim backpack? What denim accessories are acceptable these days?
