If the huddle of artisans making product on the showroom floor didn’t clue you in the first time, Project is an entirely different kind of trade show. Its “Made by Project” pop-up exhibit, which ends today in New York City, enlisted iconic and emerging heritage brands such as Barbour, Martin Greenfield, Oak Street Bootmakers, Victor Osborne, Dedegumo, and Metsa to prove their mettle with live—yes, live—demonstrations of their handiwork. Ecouterre snuck behind the scenes for an up-close-and-personal look at the future of craftsmanship.

MAKER FAIR

Made by Project is the show’s way of promoting that art of slow fashion while bridging the divide between maker and consumer. “The way the consumer shops has fundamentally changed and retailers have to rethink their models,” Andrew Pollard, president of Project, tells Ecouterre. “It’s no longer about just offering product. You have to offer a differentiated experience and entertainment or you run the risk of becoming irrelevant.”

Project will be head to Las Vegas next, where it’ll hold court at Las Vegas Boulevard from February 13 to 15.
