NEW YORK – Anatolia News Agency
The first Turkish gallery in New York’s Chelsea district, an area known for its important galleries, opened Thursday with an inauguration ceremony.
A crowd attended the event at the new two-storey “C24 Gallery” which has an area of 1,200 square meters.
Five artists from Istanbul and five from New Orleans will display their works at the gallery’s opening exhibition “Double Crescent: Art From Istanbul to New Orleans.”
“We say that art has no country,” said Emre Kurttepeli, a co-owner of the new gallery, adding that the gallery had brought international art, including Turkish artists, to New York. “We will
try to be a door for innovative artists here.”
Kurttepeli said the idea to open a gallery in Chelsea emerged five years ago and added that the construction lasted two years.
The current exhibition was displaying works from the artists of two cities that are similar since both have ports, he said, adding that the next exhibition would
feature works from artists from Berlin.
The exhibition will continue through Sept. 22 and is curated by Dan Cameron.
