The UK’s food and drink industry has slashed emissions by more than a third since 1990, meeting its carbon saving target seven years ahead of schedule.

That is the conclusion of a major new report from the Food and Drink Federation (FDF), confirming its members have cut greenhouse gas emissions by 35 per cent against a 1990 baseline. The performance means the organisation has met its 2007 goal to cut emissions 35 per cent by 2020 well ahead of schedule.

For example, signatories to the Federation House Commitment have cut water use by 15.6 per cent between 2007 and 2013, while signatories to the Courtauld Commitment have cut the carbon impact of their packaging by 4.5 per cent.
