From fast food to healthy food, from meat products to plant-based, former McDonald’s CEO Don Thompson has found a new job with a blossoming company.

He has joined the board of Beyond Meat, a California startup company that looks to supplant beef and chicken and eggs with plant-based alternatives. The move comes after Thompson left McDonald’s in March and as Beyond Meat and other companies are championing alternatives to meat and dairy and finding successes among the public.

Curiously, Thompson’s involved with Beyond Meat does not compromise his non-compete clause with McDonald’s, which will extend for a further two years.

“We look forward to working with Don to bring our plant-based meats to consumers here in the United States and abroad,” Beyond Meat founder and CEO Ethan Brown said in a statement.

McDonald’s was enduring months of struggling sales when Thompson made his departure. Beyond Meat is on the rise, with products found in 7,500 stores in the United States including Whole foods, Target, and Safeway, and as of last month, Walmart.

“Today’s customers want great taste, choice and variety in the foods they eat,” said Thompson. “More and more, every day, the traditional favorites of beef, fowl and fish are being augmented with additional plant protein sources to satisfy this new taste demand. Ethan and the team at Beyond Meat have proven that you can actually have great taste and high quality with plant based proteins – even in a burger!”

Changes also include Seth Goldman, co-founder and CEO of Honest Tea, who has served as board member since 2013 and who will now become executive chairman. While Beyond Meat continues to push its products and sway consumers, it’s bolstering its business efforts and proving worthy competition for the meat market.
