ISTANBUL – Hürriyet Daily News
The 12th Istanbul Biennial is providing a sneak peak at its cinematic content for the upcoming biennial through “Untitled (Film),” a film project being run in cooperation with the 30th Istanbul Film Festival.
This year the 12th Istanbul Biennial will explore the relationship between art and politics, focusing on works that are both formally innovative and politically outspoken under the title “Untitled (12th Istanbul Biennial)” from Sept. 17 to Nov. 13.
The biennial will include five group shows and approximately 45 solo presentations. Each of the group shows will feature a large number of artists’ works brought together under a particular theme. The theme titles are: “Untitled” (Passport),” “Untitled (Ross),” “Untitled (Death by Gun),” “Untitled (Abstraction),” and “Untitled (History).” The “Untitled (Film)” section will feature 10 films that relate politically to the subjects under examination in the biennial.
As part of the section, there will be a free conference on Sunday at Salon. The co-curator of the Istanbul Biennial, Jens Hoffmann, as well as the director of the 1991 film “Massillon,” William E. Jones, and the editor, casting and stage director of the 2000 production “Paris Commune,” Patrick Watkins, will all participate in the conference.
