There is new evidence that may deter people from consuming tuna, as a recent study has determined levels of mercury in the oft-eaten fish has risen steadily over the last 15 years.

Yellowfin tuna caught in the Pacific Ocean has seen mercury levels rise at a 3.8 percent annual rate since 1998, says a study published Monday in the journal Environment Toxicology and Chemistry. According to the researches – air pollution, particularly that which arises from burning coal, is the possible cause.
