Back in 1994, I worked as a volunteer at Columbia Presbyterian’s AIDS ward, and part of my duties was helping with the HIV daycare. It was heartbreaking to see babies born into the world with HIV. The babies and toddlers I helped take care of were amazing of course, but it was still a tough job.
So much has changed over the last 20 years, and now there is a drug that expecting mothers can take to ensure they do not transmit HIV to their babies. Born Free Africa has the goal to end mother-to-child transmission of HIV by the end of 2015.
Shopbop, and 22 designers including Isabel Marant, Diane Von Furstenburg, Tory Burch created a special capsule collection where 100% of the profits go towards achieving Born Free’s goal.
Not only that, many of the pieces look amazing with denim. So it’s a win-win for everyone…. especially, those babies.
