Turkey’s famous violinist Cihat Aşkın performed with the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra and won a standing ovation.
Rengim Gökmen, the general manager of Turkey’s State Opera and Ballet and the musical director of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra, conducted the season opening concert for the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra on Thursday night.
The orchestra performed Turkish composer Ulvi Kemal Erkin’s “Senfonik Bölüm” (Symphonic Movement), as well as the “Violin Concerto” in the first part of the concert. In the second part, the orchestra played Johannes Brahms’ 4th Symphony.
Famous Turkish violinist Cihat Aşkın, who also performed at the concert, won a standing ovation.
Gökmen said he always selected works from Turkish composers for performances in foreign countries.
The concert was possible through the support of the Sarajevo Culture and Promotion Office in Turkey. Bosnia and Herzegovina Federation Deputy Chairman Mirsad Kebo and officials from the Sarajevo Embassy to Turkey also attended the event.
