‘Bir Avuç Deniz’ won four awards in New York City International Film Festival.
Turkish director Leyla Yılmaz’s film “Bir Avuç Deniz” (A Hand Full of Sea), which was released in Turkey in March, won four awards at the New York City International Film Festival that was organized between Aug. 18 and 24.
The competition, joined by lots of international films, presented the Best Feature Film Award to “Bir Avuç Deniz.”
Starring Engin Altan Düzyatan and Berrak Tüzünataç, the film also won the Best Actress for Tüzünataç, Best Cinematography for Torben Forsberg and Best Editing by Ulaş Cihan Şİmşek. “It is a complicated, hard and experimental film featuring the world of two-faced people,” director and scriptwriter of the film Yılmaz said, speaking at the award ceremony. “We had big financial and emotional difficulties while making the film. It is a big honor for us that the film was even shown as a nominee in the festival. I dedicate this award to my mother, who died on the morning of the day the film was released.”
Another Turkish film “Sinyora Enrica ile Italyan Olmak” (Being Italian with Signora Enrica) won Best Film and Best Actress for Claudia Cardinale in the viewers’ awards category.
The Times Square Free Movies for the Public event, which was part of the festival, made dreams come true for more than 300 filmmakers from 48 countries as they had the privilege of showing their films in New York.
