Audi, Mitsubishi and Volkswagen have signed up to a government campaign aiming to promote the benefits of low-emission cars and vans.

The three companies become the latest major manufacturers to join the Go Ultra Low initiative, after BMW, Nissan, Renault, and Toyota helped launch the scheme at the beginning of last year. However, Vauxhall, another founding member, is no longer part of the campaign.

The remaining seven manufacturers offer a range of 15 ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs), including Audi’s A3 Sportback e-tron, Mitsubishi’s i-Miev and Outlander plug-in hybrid, and Volkswagen’s e-up!, e-Golf and Golf GTE plug-in hybrid.

All of the vehicles are eligible for the government plug-in grant, which offers up to £5,000 off the price of a car and up to £8,000 from the price of a van. To date, 25,000 vehicles have been purchased through the scheme, with ULEV sales quadrupling over 2014.
