If there’s one place technophiles fear, it’s the great outdoors. But with these new charging gizmos by Eddie Bauer and Goal Zero, gadget geeks will be able to charge their devices even in the depths of a forest. First up is the solar powered Katabatic 2 tent; this 92-inch tall tent was designed for “roughing it” though all four seasons within an ample 36-square-feet space. However, beyond its generous quarters, the real star of the Katabatic 2 is the small triangular solar panel, called Goal Zero solar charger, which sits atop the tent, drawing in energy for powering devices.

While the 18-watt miniature solar power roof-system sits pretty on top of your tent you can connect it to a battery pack that you can then plug in to recharge all your iPhones, cameras, and GPS devices. This whole setup does however cost a pretty penny. Between the $600 tent (without the solar panel unit) and a Goal Zero Sherpa 50 power pack for $200—you’re already looking at spending nearly $800 before you even account for the still unannounced price of the solar charger that should be coming next spring

On the slightly cheaper scale, Goal Zero also announced a new $80 Lighthouse250 Lantern that should be available next season. The lantern can light up the night with 250-lumens of LED power for 48 hours on a full charge. There’s a crank on the lantern that you can flip up to charge the light by hand, and you can use the lantern’s battery to recharge your USB devices as well.
