Even the most fastidious hotels can’t keep their bed linens immaculate forever (perish the thought!) The dirty truth? “If laid end-to-end, bed linens condemned by the world’s leading hotel chains in one year would go around the world more than twice,” according to Andy Marks, founder and CEO of Sleeping Bags, a British social enterprise that creates products from end-of-life hospitality textiles. You can sleep a little easier at the Marriott, however. The luxury hotel has thrown in its lot with Sleeping Bags to transform its retired sheets into newspaper bags, laundry sacks, and other guest amenities.

To kick off the partnership, the companies enlisted the scarf-makers at Lily and Lionel to create an exclusive print—a dream-like scene of birds in flight—to draw attention to Sleeping Bags’ goal of reducing landfill trash.

Made in London, the limited run of 1,000 is a tangible example of how we can rethink waste. Bonus: The hotel will donate at least £10 from the sale of every bag to The Prince’s Trust, a charity founded by Prince Charles to assist disadvantaged youth.
