Quiksilver has launched a line of board shorts derived from post-consumer plastic bottles. Made from Repreve, a recycled-polyester yarn by textile manufacturer Unifi, each “AG47″ short saves roughly 11 bottles from the landfill. Other features include laser-cut, heat-welded panels; stitch-free seams to prevent chafing; a heat-welded back pocket with waterproof zipper and zipper tape; reflective branding; and a cinch-lock drawcord closure with rubberized eyelets. We’re iffy on the water-resistant Scotchgard protection, however; Quiksilver and Unifi would do well to borrow a page from the likes of N2R and opt for a chemical-free solution.
