Actress and environmentalist Rachel McAdams lends her voice to support the cause of Arctic protection in a new video from Greenpeace.

Last month, McAdams supported a Greenpeace rally in Vancouver, Toast the Coast, an event aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of Arctic oil drilling and tar sands projects. Now, the “True Detective” star is voicing a lonely polar in a video by Greenpeace and the creative agency, DOT DOT DASH, which was launched July 1st — the date Shell’s window to drill in the fragile waters of the Arctic Ocean off Alaska opened.

In the video, which was directed by Jason van Bruggen, McAdams’ polar bear walks through urban landscapes and interacts with city-dwellers, talking to them about how she will soon be homeless as a result of climate change and Arctic oil drilling.

“I’ve never been much of a traveler,” says McAdams, in the opening of the 47-second spot. “Truth is, I’ll soon be homeless if I don’t find a new place to live.”

She goes on to solemnly say, “My habitat is doomed, and time’s running out.”

“Unless someone can stop them.” The ‘them’ in this case meaning Shell Oil.
