Wash and dry your hair every morning? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Enter dry shampoo, a follicle cleanser that soaks up oil and refreshes your tresses without a single drop of agua. But dry shampoo, like its wetter counterpart, can harbor a raft of toxic chemicals, such as propane or isobutane. Mercedes Parrilli, international artist for George the Salon in Chicago, has a better solution: your kitchen. “Your cupboards hold everything you need to make your own dry shampoo,” she says. “Grab cornstarch, which is more natural compared to baby powder and baking soda, and it is oil-absorbing.”

DRY ANOTHER DAY

For brunettes, or those with darker hair, Parrilli suggests combining cornstarch with unsweetened cocoa powder. If you’re a redhead, mix equal parts cornstarch with cinnamon powder. Blondes don’t need fancy add-ins. Just add a few drops of essential oil to your cornstarch for fragrance.
