A small Malmö-based design studio by the Norwegian duo Kristin Løberg and Martina Zbinden has developed a new jewelry brand entitled KÓSMOS with elegant necklaces made out of industrial waste from metal pipes. The polished rings in copper, brass and aluminum combines a beautiful symphony of various material and size combinations. The studio’s vision is to build a brand with substance and honesty, with a touch of experimental fun. The jewelry packaging also hides a clever surprise: a business card made out of sandpaper. This reflects the core design philosophy of the brand: products should stand the test of time and age gracefully. KÓSMOS does that by naturally darkening over time due to oxidation, but the sandpaper will enable those who don´t desire this effect to brush it off using sandpaper. The designers behind KÓSMOS think its important that designers play the role as humble educators, and give people cues to care for their products instead of just buying something new.
