I think it’s that whole concept of blossoming, blooming and rebirth that makes spring fashion so appealing. We’ve been covered up and cozy for many months, and the thought of shedding layers, donning florals and perhaps even stepping out in an open-toe shoe is utterly exhilarating. The winter has been a bit wimpy over on the East Coast, and truthfully we’re not out of it yet (March can be brutal, am I right?). However, we’re almost there – and frankly, I’m ready. Aren’t you? Temperatures and snow flurries be damned, let’s talk about some spring pairings (that you can actually wear now, too)!

1. A polka dot blouse – I think the phenomenon really caught on with Marc Jacobs’ collections for SS12 that showed in September, but polka dots are hot! I think they mix perfectly with other prints like stripes or cheetah, but you can also take a cue from Meghan of Wit & Whimsy and layer your dots under faux fur until things warm up a bit. Hers is this blouse from Equipment, but I also love this sleeveless Marc by Marc Jacobs blouse and this Tucker button down.

2. A skinny belt or two – I’m having a bit of a re-appreciation for belts lately. I think it’s because I’ve started tucking or half-tucking my shirts almost daily now. During my “heavy into jegggings” phase, I always wore my shirts long and untucked, because, well, that’s what you do with jeggings. Now that I’m into crops, flares and nice, sturdy denim again, belts feel right. A skinny belt (or two, if you’re feeling jazzy like Crissie here) adds instant color, interest and is no longer the has-to-match-your-shoes-and-bag thing that it once was. Try a POC like one of these from B low the belt or a Gorjana belt.

3. A hat to top thing off – I feel like hats are scary territory for a lot of women. You’re all, “I look terrible in hats!” Probably though, you just haven’t found the right hat for you. Personally, I always feel a little goofy when I first put one on, but then I realize how nicely they hide a weird hair situation and what a cool addition they can be to a spring ensemble – and I’m on board. I recommend going to a department store where you can try on as many as you want without fear of ridicule, and taking a note of what brims work best for you. Currently, Crissie and I can’t get enough of a Panama for spring and summer.
(My jeans are J Brand, Crissie’s are James Jeans.)
What trends are you looking forward to for spring (besides florals, because we’re all into that)?
