Depending on how old you are, you might be either really excited for this upcoming weekend’s Halloween celebrations, or the trick-or-treating that’s just over a week away on actual Halloween. I’m guessing it’s the former, but either way I’m sure you’re cooking up a festive costume.

Because this is a denim blog, let’s focus on some fun, relatively easy Halloween costumes that can all be built off of jeans and denim.

“Jailhouse Rock” Elvis (or a Bank Robber)

So, I lumped these two together because the basic meat and potatoes of the outfit are the same: black jeans and a black and white horizontal striped shirt. For Elvis, add a matching denim or black jacket, and style your hair into a pompadour. (Acoustic guitar optional.) For the bank robber, add a black beanie, lots of dark eye make up (or a mask)  and a sack full of fake money you can carry around suspiciously.

Rosie the Riveter

Got a red bandana? Tie it in your hair! Got a denim shirt and high-waisted blue jeans? Better yet, do you have a pair of denim overalls? Okay perfect, now roll up your sleeves, put on a bold red pout and you are Rosie.

Now that the biopic on her life (starring Amy Adams) is maybe, sort-of going to finally get made, this is a perfectly timely costume. Find a pair of super-wide flares, a crochet vest and tie-dye top, circular sunglasses and then tease the you-know-what out of your hair. Grab a microphone if you can find it and voila – a hippie with cultural relevance.

This one is about as easy as it gets: blue jeans and a plaid flannel shirt, and some faux reading glasses that resemble his Moscots. Carry a fake camera (or a real one, natch) and snap away. Bonus points for finding one of those gag cameras that’s a tiny water gun.

Now, if you’re in a couple and looking to go really, really over the top – this is the costume for you. It’s basically all the denim you can find, and then some. You will need to patch together some vintage jeans to create a denim bustier gown, and then do the same for your man, but create a 3-piece suit and matching hat.

Well, there you go – no need to go to that old standby “The Cowgirl” – there are plenty of easy and fun denim-centric Halloween costumes with much more personality!
