This is the first of our series of Cotton Tales dedicated to the cotton industry in Turkey and other parts of the world. It will focus on the local ways of dealing with cotton picking. It will discuss in detail the transition to BCI cotton (www.bettercotton.org) in some areas and it will show in detail how Better Cotton practices are already in place in other areas. Cotton from the Aegean Region of Turkey is reknown for its superior absorbency, soft feel, and pure white color.

In  most parts of the region seeds are planted by machines that dig rows and drop the seeds at the wanted depth. The distance between rows is very important as it will have to match the row units of the cotton picker machine when harvest time comes.

A farmer is checking the work of the Seeding Machine from afar. From time to time he will measure the distance between rows to make sure the machine calibration is correct.
