STAGE ONE of the School Uniforms Social Mission ACCOMPLISHED!
A small but emotional Ceremony in Wadi al Jamus celebrated the delivery of the first batch of 250 uniforms manufactured by the local NGO “Al Uswa al Hasana” and designed by SCAD Students Kaleigh and Kourtney Wilson.
Representatives from UNICEF, Orta Blu, The Italian Cooperation, The Turkish Embassy and the Mayor of Wadi al Jamus attended the ceremony. Many people from the town showed up in support of the initiative.
“Al Uswa al Hasana” runs a literacy program to help local children stay in school. More than 80 children are already part of the program. 20 people now work at the manufacturing facility. The NGO finances the program by selling the Uniforms to Orta Blu that then donates them to the schools.  The initiative was originally implemented under the UNICEF Child Friendly Communities program and funded by the  Italian Cooperation office in Lebanon.
