Field Report #4, Burj El-Barajneh Camp, Lebanon: Student

A student in Burj El-Barajneh Camp, Beirut:
The Camp is located in the southern suburb of the Lebanese capital Beirut. Built in 1948, it hosts 3,700 families. These families are composed of five to six members on average. The economic situation is very hard. The housing conditions are also very poor due to dampness. There are no playgrounds. The people suffer from unemployment. There are a lot of associations inside and in the surrounding of the camp (vocational/social/cultural). Poverty leads to social problems especially among the youth. The rate of the drops out is becoming high, sometimes due to the hard educational system.
