I don’t want to spoil your morning or anything, but remember when wearing athletic cross-trainers and boot-cut jeans was a thing? Like, something that a lot of us wore? Just thinking about it makes me shudder. Those were dark times, and I try not to remember them.
Things in the world of denim have taken a dramatic turn for the cool, crazy and wild since then, and we’re all better for it. As I’ve mentioned a couple of times lately though (here and here), I’m having a moment for more toned-down pairings lately, and I’m definitely not along. Sportswear and athletic-inspired looks are very on-trend this season, and in the sphere of denim that’s translated to seeing a lot of the cool girls wearing their denim with classic sneakers.
Is this ground-breaking? Of course not, but it is inspiring. I like the idea of giving our feet a rest from teetering heels and elevating wedges to just kick back in a pair of white kicks. The usual go-to is a pair of Converse low tops (All Stars, perhaps), but you can change it up with a cute (even colorful) pair of Superga sneaks too.
The great thing about this pairing is that it works with any kind of denim you might be in the mood for. Neon skinnies? Yep. Baggy boyfriends? Sure. Shorts, shorts, shorts? Of course!
How will you pair casual kicks with your denim this season?
