This whole printed jeans thing is really taking off, isn’t it? It’s not just sartorially adventurous editors and quirky bloggers who are getting in on the action – but living, breathing people on the streets. Sometimes it takes a while for a trend to move from the fashion scene to the neighborhood scene, but floral jeans, cheetah jeans, polka dot jeans, you name it – are on the shelves everywhere from Barney’s to Target.
Spending a lot of time looking at jeans, trying them on and getting to sample every trend under the sun – I think I’ve become a little desensitized to how difficult it can actually be to pull of a more outrageous color or print of jeans. What do you pair them with? Which prints can be worn and mixed together? What colors are easier or more difficult? I think I may delve into that in depth next week, but for now – take my word that these 7 For All Mankind jeans are a breeze.

The Print & Color
I used to hate on purple so hard, in every shade, every fabric. Today I am singing a different tune. From lavender to royal, I am loving purple. It looks phenomenal with so many other colors too: light blue, coral, minty green, grey and white for example. This two-tone print is easy for exactly that reason: it’s only two tones and one of them is white. The ikat design is obvious but not overwhelming, and the fading on the thighs (a 7FAM staple) also dilutes the boldness.
The Denim
These jeans are the cropped skinny fit (here they are on 7FAM’s site), which is super fitted and quite sexy. The rise is low, 6 1/2 inches in the front, which I like for the spring and summer months because it’s flattering when you “just frontin” tuck a drapey tank or t-shirt. The denim is a 9.5 oz stretch, which means sturdy (98% cotton, 2% spandex) so they give but not too much. The fit is extremely similar to the Current / Elliott cheetah jeans in that they are fitted to the last, unlike these more casual DL1961 crops. A small leg opening like that, that cuts close to the skin, looks best with heels and pointed-toe shoes.

Styling Notes
I chose to dress these up a little with a coral silk blouse and suede flats, but they will be ideal for warm weather brunches and casual days when paired with strappy sandals and cotton shirts. I also have a mind that they will be great for cocktails and nights out in New York when paired with pumps and a cool, sleeveless top.
