To all of my darling internet friends (I’m talking to you, Twitter and Facebook peeps), this one’s for you. I talk with you all regularly about what kind of jeans you want to see on Eat, Sleep, Denim – and we keep coming back to floral. I’ll admit that for a while, I was hesitant. Too 90′s! Too trendy! Too kooky!

But here I am, ankle deep in these Citizens of Humanity ‘Mandy’ floral jeans, and I’m rather in love. I haven’t worn Citizens in ages, but you all talked me into it. For that I am grateful. These jeans are just the right kick of spring fun I was looking for to liven up my winter wardrobe. It’s been absurdly mild in New York City this season, and I’m not the least bit upset about it. Lighter jackets, less socks and infinitely more ways to wear your denim than tucked into rubber snow boots.

The Denim

I know what you’re thinking: Mom jeans! And you’re kind of right. These pants have a 9″ rise and a 31″ inseam – which is all just a little conservative. They’re high waisted and not totally skinny – and hit below the ankle but don’t reach the shoe. It’s a quirky fit that lends itself very well to a creative wardrobe. They can be worn as is or rolled up, revealing that only the outside of the denim is printed, the underside is beige. The denim is also a 97 percent to 3 percent cotton to Lycra ratio, so they will hold their shape nicely through many wears. Like you’ve come to expect from Citizens of Humanity Jeans through the years, they’re soft and comfortable – but this time around they’ve got an ultra-feminine twist.

Styling Notes

As I mentioned above, I was very skeptical to embrace this floral denim trend. However, they make me feel so light and playful – it’s a nice change from serious, sexy dark skinnies and lean flares. You can let these jeans to all the talking with an easy, drape-y t shirt or crewneck sweater, but they really shine when played against another pattern. Tiny polka dots create contrast but because the shirt is also navy, the two pieces compliment each other, rather than battle for attention. I topped this look off with the very spring-y blazer I wore to the IFB conference, to dress the whole thing up a bit.
