It’s probably safe to say the denim shirt (along with its sister, the chambray shirt) have officially moved from “trend” item to new basic. It’s easy to see why: denim blue has long gone with everything, and moving it up top was only a matter of time.
Here are four great ways to style your new favorite:
Basic and blouse-y: An untucked denim shirt has just enough volume to balance out a mini skirt, making an ooh-la-la outfit look office-appropriate.
Lighter layer: When it’s too hot for a jean jacket, a soft chambray shirt adds a layer of warmth, color and texture.
Doubled-up: Are you terrified of the denim-on-denim trend?  Me too.  The key is color mix, so a denim shirt of a different shade can be the perfect partner.  Still scared?  Layer a leather jacket on top for a subtler take.
Personalized: If you’re so ahead of trend that you’re ready to step it up, the cut-out shoulder is such a relevant silhouette right now.  Considering picking up a denim shirt on sale and having your tailor customize some shoulder snips. Bonus points if you bust out a sewing machine yourself!
