You know that Rolling Stones song, “Paint it Black?” That’s how I feel about denim right now. I see a red door and I want it painted black…

I know (I knowwww) I was talking last week about how I loved the way some of my favorite bloggers were wearing winter color with such aplomb, but I don’t think I can do it. At least not right now. I want blacks, greys, everything dark dark, dark. (See last Friday’s post.)

From the looks of the street scene lately, I’m not alone. Stockholm Street Style has been snapping tons of monochromatic black-on-black denim looks lately, which seems to me to be sort of a throw-back to the New York (and the fashion industry) of myth. Remember when your mom would tell you that everyone in New York wears all black all the time? At least, my mom did…

The last two years have been more vibrant than many in recent memory, thanks in large part to colored denim, but I think we’re going to see a big swing back to the basics in the coming seasons. What do you think?
