So I guess it’s pretty much old hat now to talk about how amazing and versitile denim and chambray shirts are, right? We know them, we love them, we own two of the same one in different colors…

Anyway, denim shirts have a firm grip on our wardrobes these days, and aren’t going anywhere soon. For this reason, designers have started to tweak you standard button-down with detailing, dyes, and new cuts. It’s time to sport our chambray with a little unexpected update.

Dsquared2′s tie-dye snap-front shirt is western-inspired with a boho twist, perfect for adding a little unexpected character to a denim-on-denim look or a more playful pairing when tucked into a full skirt for a work day.

BLK DNM has a new, oversize and short sleeve denim shirt, with snap pockets and a very relaxed fit. Imagine how cool this shirt will look half-tucked into skinny black jeans with a smart heel? Or worn open over your favorite swimwear this summer?

I’ve never been a huge fan of patchwork denim, but I love the contrasting light and dark washes of this Maison Scotch shirt, with dark wash panels on the pockets, shoulders and elbows.

For an extra-dressed-up, semi-Victorian take on denim (yes, that’s a thing) there’s Shine’s Priscilla Frip denim shirt, complete with a satine bow at the collar and slightly puffed long sleeves. Tuck this one into your pencil skirt for an intimidatingly professional-yet-cool office look.

Are you looking to update your denim shirt, or do you prefer a classic?
