During my adventure at Fashion Coterie last week, I felt a bit like a whirling dervish. Everywhere I turned my head were sparkles, pops of neon, racks of denim and more clothes than I have ever laid eyes on.
Nando and I started our journey through the booths at Doctrine, taking in their latest Spring/Summer 2012 offerings, from featherweight trouser cuts to cropped white denim with piping. My new friend in the denim world, Johnny Pinto, aka The Denim Guy, showed us the line then was kind enough to introduce me to tons of people at some of the other booths like Paige, Big Star and Hudson.

I was totally smitten with these Doctrine scalloped shorts. They are so sweet and delicate, a great, more dressed-up alternative to the ripped, shredded, faded and frayed shorts I usually wear.

Speaking of shorts, the different colors and cuts (and cut-offs) were the highlight for me at every booth. I’ve always been a fan of denim sorts, but wow do I especially love these neon numbers from Big Star. The bright coral would be so perfect with a simple white blouse or a shot of navy blue.

Okay, so how rad are these both these shorts from Textile by Elizabeth and James? I love the tie-dye, but especially all the pyramid studs. With the inundation of colorful denim making its way into just about every brand we saw, it was fun and refreshing to see an edgier and alternative take on the trend.

At the Paige booth, Johnny introduced me to Allie Gellar, who does their PR. One thing I can say for sure after my first trip to Coterie is that you’d be hard pressed to find nicer people working in the apparel industry than those in denim. Everyone I met was cool and friendly and maybe even more obsessed with denim than I am.
