Freitag, the brand that has become known for its bags made from tarpaulin used in the trucking industry, has launched a line of rugged, five-pocket jeans that are 100% compostable. The jeans don’t contain rivets or polyester. The only non-compostable material is the metal buttons, and they can be easily screwed off for your composting pleasure.
The denim is made of a twill combination of 81% linen and 19% hemp, which Freitag calls “a masterpiece found nowhere else in the world of fashion and textiles.” That fabric makes the pants substantial: the men’s jeans weigh 19 oz. and the women’s weigh 17 oz.
The men’s are available now in blue and black for $245. The women’s version will be available in October; you can sign up at the Freitag website to get notified.
In addition to all that environmental goodness, these are some seriously good-looking jeans! Check out the lookbook below, and don’t miss the brand’s launch video featuring acrobats donning their denim on horseback!
