I’ve come to love the month of October in New York City. It’s officially, officially autumn, but Mother Nature just isn’t totally convinced. The temperatures see-saw between the shiver-inducing fifties and bare-legged and glorious high seventies.

I know a lot of people who couldn’t be more ready to retire their denim shorts and airy floral frocks, but I rather like the unpredictable shifts and random summer-esque afternoons.  It gives me a chance to get one last wear out of my favorite summer pieces before retiring them officially.
The streets have lately been reflecting the indecisive weather, with the well-dressed set varying from shorts and chunky sweaters to skinnies and flats with a light jacket.

I love the contrast of purple jeans and a sleek white jacket in this woman’s ensemble. It’s such a great spin on colored denim. She looks fun and fresh but sophisticated enough for running around to meetings in the city. (I just made up that vision of what she might be up to.)

This last look is one of my favorites, because she’s incorporating three of my favorite things for fall 2011: a denim shirt; a bright, red sweater (I need to find one like this) and patterned pants. Not to mention her big, dark aviators are ridiculously cool. The whole effect is funky and effortless.
