On a rainy evening last week, it felt apropos to be greeted by autumnal tones and rich details at the Genetic Denim Fall/Holiday preview. Founder and Creative Director Ali Fatourechi avoids repetition in favor of innovation, so it was no surprise I discovered ahead-of-trend details, finishes and cuts that will inspire my own shopping list.
Many of the standouts for me were within the Genetic Visionaries collaborations series. For Fall, the capsule collection created with stylist Estee Stanley featured heavyweight studs paired with an elegant, lightweight denim and included some adorable dresses, while Holiday brought gunmetal sequined jeans that balanced sparkle with edge, and covetable rose gold details. A unique embroidered lace/snakeskin hybrid layered on a black rocker fit pant is definitely on my list.
I fell in love with a couple of finishes and cuts, including a double-washed twill that truly felt like suede (but so much more practical, because it’s washable). Fall’s 70’s-inspired cuts included front pocket details that I think are a must-have, and a thoughtful range of vintage silhouettes that include something for everyone. I personally was happy to see a bellbottom jean cut wide in the leg, instead of the expected fitted thigh – although they offer that too.
Although it was tough to narrow, these are my top Genetic Denim picks for Fall:
